RIVER FALLS, Wis. — The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire women's hockey team fell to No. 1 UW-River Falls 9-0 on Saturday at Hunt Arena. The Falcons pulled away in the second period to finish off a regular-season sweep of the Blugolds.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Falcons (20-3-2, 11-0-1) took a 2-0 lead in the first period, but began to pull away in the second.
- UW-River Falls scored six goals in a span of eight minutes midway through the second period to pull away. The Blugolds (17-8-0, 9-3-0) couldn't recover.
- The Falcons tacked on two more goals in the third period.
- Kaia Hollingsworth (Sr. - Methuen, Mass.) had 15 saves in net and Tegan Swanson (Fr. - Eden Prairie, Minn.) added seven.
- UW-River Falls held a 31-23 advantage in shots.

The Blugolds open the postseason with the first round of the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Tournament (Presented by Culver's). UW-Eau Claire will host UW-Stevens Point in a two-game series on February 28 and March 1. Game times both days are 7 p.m.
