EAU CLAIRE, Wis. — The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire women's hockey team defeated Northland College 8-1 on Saturday at Hobbs Ice Arena. It finished off a season sweep of the LumberJills in Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) play.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Ava Bullert (Jr. - North Oaks, Minn./Mounds View) scored a pair of goals to lead the Blugolds (17-7-0, 9-2-0), who pulled away in the second period.
- Jess Eykyn (Fr. - Mankato, Minn./East) started the scoring with a goal late in the first period. Northland (0-19-0, 0-10-0) tied the game midway through the second, but the Blugolds took over from there.
- Keira Bolt (Jr. - Boise, Idaho) put the Blugolds ahead with nine minutes left in the second period. Lauren Ballinger (Fr. - Shoreview, Minn./Mounds View) made it 3-1 four minutes later, and Ava Johansson (So. - Rogers, Minn.) made it a three-goal advantage with a goal in the closing seconds of the period.
- Bullert scored on a power play early in the third, and Samantha Bandholz (Sr. - Richfield, Wis./Slinger) added another power-play goal a minute and a half later. Sam Moehle (Jr. - Farmington, Minn.) tacked on another goal with about 12 minutes left, and Bullert capped the scoring with her second goal at the 6:16 mark.
- Kaia Hollingsworth (Sr. - Methuen, Mass.) had two saves in net to earn the victory.
- Kylie Wiltse (So. - Maplewood, Minn./Roseville) and Adrienne Hansen (Fr. - Monticello, Minn.) had three assists each for UW-Eau Claire. Maddie Hulter (So. - Fergus Falls, Minn.) had two assists.
