EAU CLAIRE, Wis. — The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire women's basketball team fell to UW-Stevens Point 60-59 on Saturday at the Sonnentag Event Center. The Pointers made a go-ahead 3-pointer in the final second of the game to knock off the Blugolds in their final home game of the season.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Blugolds (8-15, 3-9) started well and led by 14 in the second half, but couldn't hold off the Pointers' surge.
- Lauren Meudt (Jr. - Waunakee, Wis.) tallied the first double-double of her career, finishing with a team-high 18 points and 14 rebounds. She also had three assists and two steals.
- UW-Eau Claire opened the game with a 13-2 run and led until the final second of the contest. The Blugolds made five 3-pointers in the opening quarter and led 22-12 entering the second.
- The Pointers (16-7, 6-6) began to chip away in the second quarter, but a 6-0 Blugolds run to end the half put UW-Eau Claire ahead 34-21 at halftime.
- A pair of free throws by Lucia Hauge (Sr. - Hugo, Minn./St. Croix Lutheran Academy) made it a 14-point lead at 37-23 with seven minutes left in the third quarter. The Blugolds took a 45-37 advantage into the final quarter.
- UW-Stevens Point outscored UW-Eau Claire 23-14 in the fourth. The Pointers overturned a 10-point deficit in the final four and a half minutes. They ended the game on a 14-3 run, capped by the go-ahead 3-pointer with a second left.
- Hauge finished with 11 points. Kyla Overskei (Jr. - Maple Grove, Minn.) added 10.
- UW-Eau Claire held a 41-30 advantage in rebounding.
- The Blugolds celebrated seniors Hauge, Katie Pampuch (Sr. - Hubertus, Wis./Germantown), Anna Koth (Sr. - Maple Grove, Minn./Wayzata) and manager Corey Boerner.
