EAU CLAIRE, Wis. — The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire men's hockey team wrapped up its regular season with a 4-2 victory over UW-Stout on Saturday at Hobbs Ice Arena. The Blugolds clinched the No. 3 seed in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Tournament (Presented by Culver's) with the victory.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Four different players scored in the victory for UW-Eau Claire (10-14-1, 8-7-0).
- Dayne Hoyord (So. - Scandinavia, Wis./Stevens Point) opened the scoring late in the first period, converting an assist from Kade Peterson (So. - West Fargo, N.D./Northstar Christian Academy).
- Max Ruoho (Jr. - Madison, Wis./Memorial) doubled the lead with a goal early in the second period. It came off assists from Kyler Grundy (Sr. - Pleasant Prairie, Wis./Indian Trail) and Tyler Herzberg (So. - Germantown, Wis./University School of Milwaukee).
- The Blue Devils (12-11-2, 5-9-1) answered with their first goal at the 14:48 mark of the second period, but Eli Reimer (So. - Lansing, Mich./Grand Ledge) made it a two-goal game again with a strike in the final two minutes of the period. Ruoho assisted.
- UW-Stout cut the deficit to one with a little over five minutes left in regulation, but Jordan Randall (Sr. - Maple Grove, Minn.) iced the game away with a goal with under three minutes left. Assists came from Jadon Reimer (So. - Lansing, Mich./Grand Ledge) and Eli Reimer.
- Max Gutjahr (Jr. - Appleton, Wis./Kimberly) made 26 saves to earn the victory in net.
UP NEXT
As the No. 3 seed in the WIAC Tournament, the Blugolds will host sixth-seeded Northland College in the opening round. The first game of the series is set for Friday, February 21, at Hobbs Ice Arena. Start time will be announced in the coming days.
