PLATTEVILLE, Wis. — The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire women's basketball team defeated UW-Platteville 46-44 on Wednesday at Bo Ryan Court.
Lauren Meudt (Jr. - Waunakee, Wis.) made the game-winning basket in the closing minute, and nabbed a key steal in the final seconds to help the Blugolds seal their Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) victory.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Blugolds (8-14, 3-8) overcame a tough start. UW-Platteville (8-14, 2-9) started the game with a 7-2 run.
- UW-Eau Claire surged in the second quarter, outscoring the Pioneers 15-11 to take a 24-22 halftime lead. The Blugolds closed the half on an 8-1 run which featured 3-pointers from Anna Koth (Sr. - Maple Grove, Minn./Wayzata) and Meudt.
- A back-and-forth third quarter saw each team hold five-point leads at different junctures. UW-Eau Claire got a basket from Britta DeMar (Fr. - Oak Grove, Minn./Elk River) at the buzzer gave the Blugolds a 37-36 lead entering the final quarter.
- Neither team led by more than two in the fourth quarter. With the game tied at 44, Meudt hit a layup off the drive with 38 seconds left to give the Blugolds the lead for good. At the other end of the court, she came up with a steal with two seconds left to deny the Pioneers' chance to tie or win the game.
- Meudt led all scorers with 16 points. She finished with five steals and four rebounds.
- DeMar had nine points. Reanna Hutchinson (Jr. - Eau Claire, Wis./North) had seven points and four rebounds.

UW-Eau Claire has its final home game of the regular season on Saturday, February 15. The team will hold Senior Night when it hosts UW-Stevens Point at the Sonnentag Event Center. Tip-off is at 5 p.m.
