EAU CLAIRE, Wis. — The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire men's hockey team fell in its series finale against No. 13 UW-Superior 2-0 on Saturday at Hobbs Ice Arena. The Blugolds were tied with the Yellowjackets entering the final period before the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) leaders pulled away.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The score was 0-0 entering the third period. The Yellowjackets (16-3-2, 9-1-1) scored the game winner with just under seven minutes left in regulation.
- UW-Superior doubled its lead with an empty-net goal in the final minute and a half of the third period.
- Max Gutjahr (Jr. - Appleton, Wis./Kimberly) made 20 saves to keep the Blugolds (8-12-1, 6-5-0) in the game.
- UW-Eau Claire held a 26-22 advantage in shots.
- The two teams combined to go 0 for 11 on the power play.
UP NEXT
The Blugolds return to the ice on Friday, February 7, when they visit UW-River Falls. Each team has 18 points in the WIAC standings with only a small handful of games left on the schedule. Game time is 7:05 p.m., with a rematch to follow on February 8.
