RIVER FALLS, Wis. – The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire men's hockey team dropped a Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) contest to UW-River Falls 3-2 in overtime on Friday at Hunt Arena. The Blugolds overcame a second-period deficit to take the lead, but couldn't hold off the Falcons' comeback.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- After a scoreless first period, the Falcons (12-9-1, 6-5-1) broke the tie with a goal in the first four minutes of the second period.
- UW-Eau Claire (8-13-1, 6-6-0) answered less than two minutes later. Tyler Herzberg (So. – Germantown, Wis./University School of Milwaukee) scored with just under 15 minutes left in the period to tie the game at 1-1.
- Leo Bacallao (Jr. – Madison, Wis./Memorial) scored a go-ahead goal near the midway point of the second period. He struck off assists from Will Brenner (Fr. – Edmond, Okla./Edmond Memorial) and Colin Stein (Sr. – Pewaukee, Wis./Catholic Memorial).
- The Falcons tied the game at 2-2 with 12:43 left in the third period. They struck on the power play to even the score, and neither side scored again until overtime.
- UW-River Falls won the game with an even-strength goal in the final minute of overtime.
- Ethan Roberts (Jr. – Cary, N.C./Loomis Chaffee) made 31 saves in net for UW-Eau Claire.
