Blugolds Defeat Pointers Behind Freije's Third Shutout

STEVENS POINT, Wis. — UW-Eau Claire (8-2-0, 3-0-0) secured a decisive 5–0 victory over the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point (6-3-0, 1-2-0) at K.B. Willett Arena. The Blugolds dominated with a 51-12 edge in shots and capitalized on two power-play opportunities.

The first period opened with Wis.-Stevens Point winning the initial faceoff, but UW-Eau Claire quickly took control. Adrienne Hansen and Ashley Wagenbach tested the opposing goaltender early, but it was Maddie Hulter who scored the first goal at 13:35 during a power play, assisted by Wagenbach and Kylie Wiltse. UWEC maintained pressure, culminating in a second goal by Jordan Hancock at 00:27, with Kenzie Keller providing the assist. The period ended with a 2-0 lead for the Blugolds.

Madisyn Krumholz extended the lead for UW-Eau Claire with an even-strength goal at 16:28, assisted by Josie Grossman. The visitors applied consistent pressure on the Pointers' defense throughout the second period, forcing multiple saves from Anne Beck. Wis.-Stevens Point had opportunities on the power play but were unable to capitalize, as UWEC's penalty kill remained effective. The period concluded with a 3-0 lead for UW-Eau Claire.

The Blugolds extended their lead in the third period with two more goals. Jordan Hancock scored at 17:46, assisted by Wiltse. Later, Keller converted a power play opportunity at 3:32, with Hulter assisting. Goalie Kambelle Freije secured her third shutout of the season, turning away several shots from the home team throughout the period.

Hulter recorded a goal and an assist, including a game-winning power-play goal. Hancock contributed with two goals, enhancing the team's offensive efforts. Wiltse added two assists, helping facilitate scoring opportunities. Keller scored once and assisted another, also achieving a 61% faceoff win rate. Goalie Freije made 12 saves, maintaining a clean sheet.

UW-Eau Claire stands at 8-2-0 overall, with a 3-0-0 record in conference play. The Pointers hold a 6-3-0 overall record, including a 1-2-0 mark in conference competition.
