Men's Basketball Earns Tenth Straight with Dominant Win over Superior

SUPERIOR, Wis. — The University of Wisconsin.-Eau Claire defeated UW-Superior 68-49 at Mertz Mortorelli Gymnasium on Saturday. The Blugolds controlled the game with a dominant presence in the paint, outscoring their opponents 42-18 in that area. The Blugolds also benefited from a strong bench performance, contributing 32 points to secure the win. 

The game opened with Kenji Scales scoring a jumper for the UW-Eau Claire at the 19:46 mark, setting the tone for the half. UWEC maintained an offensive edge, highlighted by Xavier Lewis's consistent inside scoring, which contributed to a 10-point lead by halftime. Superior stayed competitive with two 3-pointers and a jumper, but they trailed throughout the half. Despite efforts by UWS to close the gap, the Blugolds concluded the half leading 33-23, with Joey Butz hitting two 3-pointers to bolster their scoring.

The second half saw the Blugolds extend their lead over Superior with a strong offensive performance. Will Boser opened with a three-pointer at 19:17, setting the tone for the visitors' scoring run. Carter Lichtsinn contributed significantly with 9 points, including a pair of successful free throws, while Kenji Scales added to the momentum with key assists and a jumper at 16:53. The Yellowjackets struggled to contain the visitors' offense, despite making crucial three-pointers. UW-Eau Claire maintained their advantage, closing the half with a 35-26 edge, leading to a decisive victory.

Carter Lichtsinn recorded a double-double with 12 rebounds and added seven points in the game. Xavier Lewis also posted a strong performance, contributing 10 points and 11 rebounds. Kenji Scales led the team in scoring with 10 points on 5-of-8 shooting. Roan Demovsky made a defensive impact with two steals while adding four rebounds.

The Blugolds hold a perfect record of 10-0 overall. The Yellowjackets are currently 2-8 for the season.

In their next game, UWEC will face off against North Park University on Sunday, Dec. 21, at 3 p.m. at The Sonnentag Event Center in Eau Claire, Wisconsin.
