EAU CLAIRE, Wis. - UW-Eau Claire (3-2-1, 2-0-0) defeated UW-Stout (4-2-0, 1-1-0), 5–1, at home. The Blugolds' defense held strong, allowing just one goal while capitalizing on an empty-net opportunity late in the game.
UW-Eau Claire opened the scoring at 7:20 with
Max Dronen netting the first goal of the game, assisted by
Dayne Hoyord. Just 16 seconds later,
Kade Peterson extended the lead to 2–0 with
Carter Bradley providing the assist. Despite multiple shots from both teams, including two pipe hits from UW-Stout, the period concluded with the Blugolds holding a two-goal advantage.
UWEC extended their lead in the second period with two goals, maintaining control over the Blue Devils.
Logan Ganz scored at 16:01, assisted by Dronen and Hoyord, to bring the score to 3–0.
Tyler Herzberg added another goal at 10:48, with Peterson and
Max Ruoho providing assists, increasing the advantage to 4–0. UW-Stout was unable to capitalize on their power play opportunities, as
Max Gutjahr made several key saves to preserve the shutout.
The Blugolds secured a decisive 5–1 victory over UW-Stout, highlighted by a strong third period. UW-Stout capitalized on a power play with a goal from Maksis Brimanis at 10:09, assisted by Arhip Sidarovich and Gunner Moore, narrowing the gap to 4–1. UW-Eau Claire responded by sealing the win with an empty-net goal from
Brent Gulenchyn at 2:21, assisted by
Cameron Bullinger. Despite UW-Stout's efforts, including pulling the goalie for an extra attacker, the defense of the Blugolds held firm to maintain the lead.
Peterson scored one goal and added an assist, including the game-winning goal, finishing with a plus-minus of +2. Bradley contributed an assist and maintained a plus-minus of +4. Dronen recorded a goal and an assist while winning 11 faceoffs with a 64% success rate. Gutjahr, the goaltender, made 22 saves while allowing just one goal in his start.
UWEC improved to 3-2-1 overall and 2-0-0 in conference play after their decisive victory. Wis.-Stout now stands at 4-2-0 overall and 1-1-0 in conference competition following the loss.
