DE PERE, Wis. — The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire (3-3-1) fell to St. Norbert College (8-2-0), 6–1, with the Blugolds unable to capitalize on two power-play opportunities. St. Norbert scored four third-period goals to secure the victory.
The first period commenced with the Blugolds'
Tyler Herzberg winning the opening faceoff against St. Norbert's Curtis Hammond. The Blugolds took an early lead at 10:49 when
Logan Ganz scored his third goal of the season, assisted by
Dayne Hoyord and
Max Dronen. St. Norbert responded at 5:59 as Braden Lindstrom, assisted by Calvin Hanson and Logan Dombrowsky, tied the game at 1–1. Both teams had additional chances, but goaltenders
Max Gutjahr and Hunter Garvey made key saves to maintain the deadlock. As the period concluded, UW-Eau Claire faced penalties, giving St. Norbert a power play opportunity heading into the next period.
St. Norbert dominated the second period in puck possession and shots, culminating in a decisive goal in the final minute. Despite numerous attempts early in the period, including blocked shots by
Carter Green and saves by Gutjahr, St. Norbert's persistent offense was evident. UWEC had its chances during a power play midway through, but Garvey stood firm in net. The period reached its pivotal moment at 19:27 when Blake Ulve scored the game-winning goal, assisted by T.J. Koufis and Trevor Mitchell, to establish a 2–1 lead for St. Norbert.
St. Norbert extended their lead early in the third period with Lindstrom scoring at 11:56 with assistance from Koufis and Cooper Morris. Hammond further widened the gap at 9:54, aided by assists from Dayton Deics and Koufis. Bryan Gilman added another goal for St. Norbert at 2:35, with assists from Jack Christen and Braydon Beahm. The final goal came on a power play with 55 seconds remaining, as Beahm scored his eighth of the season, assisted by Hanson and Christen. St. Norbert secured a decisive 6-1 victory over UW-Eau Claire.
Ganz scored one goal on two shots, contributing to the team's offensive efforts.
Max Gutjahr, in net, made 32 saves despite conceding six goals.
Carter Green made a defensive impact by blocking four shots.
