EAU CLAIRE, Wis. — Concordia-Moorhead (2-2-1) defeated the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire (1-2-0), 4–1, at Hobbs Ice Center. The Blugolds' lone goal came in the second period, but Concordia-Moorhead secured the win with three third-period goals, including one on the power play.
The first period commenced with a faceoff win by
Max Dronen for UW-Eau Claire, setting an early competitive tone. Both teams struggled to break through defensively, with the Blugolds firing several blocked or missed attempts, including efforts by
Andrew Hayek and
Carter Green. Concordia-Moorhead's defense held firm, with Noel Olsonawski saving key shots and multiple blocks from their defensemen, notably Carson Triggs and Brady O'Brien.
Max Gutjahr stood strong in net for UWEC, turning aside numerous shots from Concordia-Moorhead, keeping the period scoreless.
Blake Johnson opened the scoring for Concordia-Moorhead with a power-play goal at 18:21, assisted by Carson Triggs and Patrick Dunaiski. UW-Eau Claire responded with an equalizer when
Logan Ganz scored unassisted at 14:35. Gutjahr made several key saves during Concordia-Moorhead's power plays, keeping the game tied. Both teams ended the second period level at 1–1 after an energetic second frame.
Concordia-Moorhead extended its lead in the third period, starting with an unassisted goal by Jackson Lucia at 16:09, pushing the score to 2–1. The visitors continued to control the game when Carson Triggs scored at 1:59, assisted by Caden Triggs, increasing the margin to 3–1. The Blugolds pulled their goalie with under two minutes remaining, but Caden Triggs sealed the victory with an empty-net goal at 00:32, finalizing a 4–1 result for Concordia-Moorhead. Gutjahr made several key saves for the home team, but UWEC could not capitalize on their opportunities.
Ganz scored one goal and posted a plus-minus of +1. Gutjahr recorded 28 saves in goal.
Easton Inglis excelled in face-offs, winning 63% of his attempts.
