EAU CLAIRE, Wis. — UW-Eau Claire (1-2-1) played to a 2–2 tie against Augsburg (2-2-2) at Hobbs Ice Arena. The Blugolds held a 64 percent faceoff win rate and blocked 17 shots, while Augsburg managed a power-play goal to level the score.
Carter Bradley put the Blugolds on the board first at 9:36 with an even-strength goal, assisted by
Trey Gnetz and
Logan Ganz. Augsburg's Landon Parker equalized on the power play at 17:55, with assists from Zachary Reim and Conner Schneider, leveling the score at 1-1. The period ended with both teams tied, despite several blocked shots and saves from goalies Carsen Stokes and
Max Gutjahr.
UW-Eau Claire capitalized on an offensive surge in the second period to take the lead against Augsburg. Despite a flurry of missed opportunities for both teams,
Carter Green broke the deadlock at 5:29 with an even-strength goal, assisted by
Max Dronen and
Max Ruoho, pushing the score to 2-1. The team maintained pressure throughout the period, outpacing Augsburg with numerous attempts on goal, while Gutjahr made key saves to keep Augsburg at bay. The period concluded with UW-Eau Claire holding a 2-1 advantage. After the second period concluded, a scrum led to multiple penalties on each side.
Augsburg's persistent offensive efforts were highlighted by multiple missed shots and saves by UWEC's goaltender, Gutjahr, who faced a barrage of attempts. Despite several power-play opportunities for Augsburg, the Blugolds managed to keep the game tied for most of the period. With just 34 seconds left in regulation, Conner Schneider tied the game for Augsburg, assisted by Duke Kiffin and Reim, after Augsburg pulled their goalie for an extra attacker. The period concluded with the score even at 2–2.
In a tense overtime period between UW-Eau Claire and Augsburg, both teams traded opportunities but neither managed to score. The Blugolds'
Trey Gnetz and
Logan Ganz each missed the net, while Augsburg's Peyton Hanson and Reim saw their attempts either saved or blocked. Dronen played a pivotal role in faceoffs, winning multiple for the home side. Connor Thompson also impressed in the faceoff circle, securing a 63 percent win rate. Gutjahr made 23 saves, maintaining a steady presence in goal despite allowing two goals.
