EAU CLAIRE, Wis. — UW-Eau Claire secured a 1-0 victory over the UW-Oshkosh on Saturday at Simpson Field. The decisive goal was scored in the first half, and the UW-Eau Claire defense held strong, with their goalkeeper recording three saves to maintain the shutout. The UW-Oshkosh had eight shots but failed to find the back of the net, as the home team capitalized on one of their five shots on goal to claim the win.
The first half began with the Blugolds taking an early lead when
Emma Donovan scored in the 4th minute, assisted by
Clara Farley.
Bella Jones, starting in goal, contributed with a crucial save in the 19th minute, maintaining their defensive strength against the visitors' attempts. The home team continued to apply pressure with shots from
Johanna Thompson and
Mia Leszko, while Mallory Kerhin in goal for the visitors managed to save a shot from
Magnolia Millar Bruzek late in the half. The Blugolds concluded the first half ahead, leading 1-0.
The second half began with a defensive stand by the Blugolds as Jones saved an early shot from the visitors' Addyson Knoebel.
Nevaeh Tillman responded with a shot for the home team at 52:18, but it went over the top. Jones continued to be a key player, making another crucial save against Ella Duckmann at the 57:31 mark.
As the half progressed, UW-Eau Claire's
Haley Von Rentzell and Leszko both had attempts on goal, but were denied by the visitors' goalkeeper Kerhin. Despite consistent offensive pressure, the home team could not extend their lead. The half concluded with a corner kick opportunity for the Blugolds at 82:45, but neither team added to the scoreboard, leaving the home team with a 1-0 victory.
UW-Eau Claire improved to 2-7-3 overall and 1-0-0 in conference play with the victory. The University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh fell to 4-3-3 overall and 0-1-0 in conference play following the defeat.
