Blugolds' Second Half Goal Not Enough to Catch Falcons

RIVER FALLS, Wis. — UW-Eau Claire fell to the University of Wisconsin-River Falls 2-1 on Saturday at Ramer Soccer Stadium. Despite a strong showing with 18 shots, including nine on goal, the Blugolds managed only one goal in the second half. UW-River Falls capitalized on their opportunities, scoring once in each half, and held on for the victory.

The first half began with UW-Eau Claire pressing offensively, as Savannah Swopes delivered an early shot saved by UW-River Falls' goalkeeper. Bella Jones ensured a solid start in goal for UWEC, making key saves against multiple attempts from the opponents, including efforts by Emery Bigler and Gretchen Hanson.

Despite UWEC's efforts, UW-River Falls capitalized in the 9th minute when Brooke McDaniel found the back of the net, assisted by Elizabeth Felty. The Blugolds continued to apply pressure, with Caroline Curran and Sabrina Pickart both challenging the opposing goalkeeper, but were unable to alter the scoreboard.

The half concluded with UWEC trailing by one goal, despite their persistent attacking efforts and defensive stops, heading into the break down 1-0.

The second half began with the Blugolds applying pressure, as Lisette Thurman took an early shot following a corner kick. Despite their efforts, UW-River Falls extended their lead when Emery Bigler scored in the 52nd minute, assisted by McDaniel. UW-Eau Claire responded tenaciously, with Emma Donovan finding the back of the net in the 60th minute to reduce the deficit to 2-1.

Throughout the remainder of the half, the Blugolds continued to challenge the opposition's defense, with Donovan and Mikalyn Hidde both creating scoring opportunities. Jones made a crucial save against a shot from Bigler to keep the visitors within reach. The half concluded with UWEC trailing 2-1, as they continued to press for an equalizer.

Emma Donovan scored once and led the team with five shots, three of which were on goal. Bella Jones made six saves while facing 13 shots. Mikalyn Hidde attempted three shots, with one on target. Savannah Swopes managed one shot on goal during the match.

UW-Eau Claire holds a record of 2-11-4 overall and 1-4-1 in conference play. UW-River Falls stands at 11-4-2 overall and 3-2-1 in the conference.
