Blugolds fall to Hamline in top 15 clash

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. — The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire women's hockey team dropped a ranked battle with No. 15 Hamline 6-0 on Monday at Hobbs Ice Arena. The ninth-ranked Blugolds couldn't overcome a five-goal outburst in the second period from the Pipers and saw their six-game win streak come to an end.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Hamline (9-2-0) scored once in the first period before breaking the game open with five goals in the second.
  • The Pipers doubled their lead within the first three minutes of the second period. They later turned their 2-0 lead into a 5-0 advantage with three goals in a span of six and a half minutes. They finished off the scoring with a sixth goal in the final minute and a half of the second period.
  • The Blugolds (10-4-0) out-shot the Pipers 9-1 in the third period as they sought to erase the deficit, but they couldn't get anything past the Hamline goalie.
  • Kaia Hollingsworth (Sr. - Metheun, Mass.) made five saves for the Blugolds and Alexa Backmann (So. - Rogers, Minn.) made four.
  • In total, UW-Eau Claire out-shot Hamline 27-15.
