EAU CLAIRE, Wis. — The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire men's hockey team dropped a Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) contest to No. 13 UW-Superior 4-1 on Friday at Hobbs Ice Arena. The Blugolds overcame an early deficit, but couldn't hold on against the WIAC-leading Yellowjackets.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Blugolds (8-11-1, 6-4-0) erased a one-goal deficit after the first period, but the 13th-ranked Yellowjackets (15-3-2, 8-1-1) scored the final three goals of the game to pull away.
- After UW-Superior took the lead with a power-play goal five minutes into the game, the Blugolds found their answer early in the second period. Jordan Randall (Sr. - Maple Grove, Minn.) scored on a power play less than a minute and a half into the period, assisted by Max Ruoho (Jr. - Madison, Wis./Vel Phillips Memorial) and Trenten Heyde (Jr. - Atlanta, Ga./Grayson).
- The Yellowjackets scored the game-winning goal a minute and a half after Randall's equalizer. They doubled their new lead with a power play goal a minute after their go-ahead strike.
- UW-Superior iced the game away with an empty net goal in the final three minutes of the third period.
- Ethan Roberts (Jr. - Cary, N.C./Loomis Chaffee) made 22 saves in net for UW-Eau Claire.
- The Blugolds held a 42-26 edge in shots.
