EAU CLAIRE, Wis. — The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire women's basketball team picked up a 60-56 victory over UW-River Falls on Wednesday night at the Sonnentag Event Center to end a six-game losing streak. The Blugolds rode a double-double from
Kyla Overskei (Jr. - Maple Grove, Minn.) and a strong performance on the glass to earn a Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) regular-season split with the Falcons.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Overskei tallied 11 points and 11 rebounds to post her fifth double-double of the season.
- Lauren Meudt (Jr. - Waunakee, Wis.) scored a team-high 14 points to lead the Blugolds, matching her season high.
- UW-Eau Claire (7-12, 2-6) overcame a slow start to lead UW-River Falls (11-8, 3-5) at halftime. The Falcons held the Blugolds to one point across the final four minutes of the first quarter to take a 14-7 lead at the first break, but UW-Eau Claire responded well in the second quarter. The Blugolds outscored UW-River Falls 18-9 in the period after holding the Falcons to 9% shooting from the floor. It gave UW-Eau Claire a 25-23 halftime lead.
- A 9-2 run midway through the third quarter put UW-River Falls ahead by four. Despite a bit of back and forth, the Falcons took a 43-40 advantage into the final quarter.
- The Blugolds closed out the victory with a big performance in the fourth. They outscored UW-River Falls 20-13, with a 3-pointer from Overskei putting UW-Eau Claire in front for good with 2:44 remaining. It started a 10-2 run that sealed out the win.
- Reanna Hutchinson (Jr. - Eau Claire, Wis./North) had nine points and six rebounds. Britta DeMar (Fr. - Oak Grove, Minn./Elk River) added a career-best seven points.
- The Blugolds out-rebounded the Falcons 43-33. UW-Eau Claire shot 40% from the field.
