RIVER FALLS, Wis. — The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire men's basketball team ran its win streak to four with a 71-58 victory over UW-River Falls on Wednesday at Page Arena. The Blugolds got another pair of big performances from
Carter Huschka (Sr. - Farmington, Minn.) and
Andre Renta (Jr. - Hudson, Wis.) to cruise past the Falcons in Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) play.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Huschka and Renta teamed up to score 43 of the team's 71 points. Huschka had 24 and Renta had 19. Huschka added eight rebounds while Renta dished six assists.
- The Blugolds (13-6, 5-3) broke the game open late in the first half. UW-Eau Claire held a two-point lead with five minutes until halftime, but outscored the Falcons (7-12, 1-7) 16-4 the rest of the half. Back-to-back 3-pointers from Drew Maloney (Sr. - St. Charles, Minn.) and Joey Butz (Fr. - River Falls, Wis.) helped send the Blugolds on their way. They entered the locker room ahead 37-23
- UW-Eau Claire's lead grew as high as 20 early in the second half, with a 3-pointer from Renta putting the Blugolds up 52-32 with 14:47 left. UW-River Falls slowly whittled away at the deficit, but never got it lower than nine. The closest the game got was at 56-47 with eight minutes remaining, but UW-Eau Claire immediately answered with an 8-0 run to pull away again.
- Cade Hall (Sr. - Mauston, Wis.) had a team-high 10 rebounds. The Blugolds held a 39-27 advantage on the glass.
- UW-Eau Claire shot 45% from the field and 56% from deep. They also went 16 of 19 at the free throw line.
