ASHLAND, Wis. — The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire men's hockey team completed a regular-season sweep of Northland College with a 5-0 victory on Saturday at Bay Area Civic Center. The Blugolds kept pace in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) race with their second consecutive shutout.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Blugolds (8-10-1, 6-3-0) shut out the Lumberjacks for the second consecutive night. Max Gutjahr (Jr. - Appleton, Wis./Kimberly) made 17 saves in Saturday's win a day after making 15 saves in a 2-0 shutout.
- UW-Eau Claire scored twice in the first period and never looked back. Charlie Erickson (So. - Duluth, Minn./Duluth East) opened the scoring just over five minutes into the game, and Jordan Randall (Sr. - Maple Grove, Minn.) doubled the lead less than a minute later.
- Dayne Hoyord (So. - Scandinavia, Wis./Stevens Point) made it 3-0 with a goal three minutes into the second period. Tyler Herzberg (So. - Germantown, Wis./University School of Milwaukee) scored the fourth goal with six and a half minutes left in the second period.
- Max Dronen (Fr. - Moorhead, Minn.) finished the scoring with a goal early in the third period. He also had two assists in the win.
- Colin Stein (Sr. - Pewaukee, Wis./Catholic Memorial) added two assists. Erickson and Hoyord also had assists in addition to scoring.
- UW-Eau Claire outshot Northland 41-17.
