ASHLAND, Wis. — The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire men's hockey team blanked Northland College 2-0 in Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) play on Friday at Bay Area Civic Center. The Blugolds scored once in each of the first two periods and rode a stout performance in the defensive zone to knock off the Lumberjacks.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Connor Thompson (Fr. - Lino Lakes, Minn./Centennial) opened the scoring just over three minutes into the game. He struck off assists from Kyle Oleksiuk (Sr. - Winnipeg, Manitoba) and Nolan Grier (Fr. - Fond du Lac, Wis.).
- Jordan Randall (Sr. - Maple Grove, Minn.) doubled the lead for the Blugolds (7-10-1, 5-3-0) early in the second period. He converted an assist from Eli Reimer (So. - Lansing, Mich./Grand Ledge) just 2:22 into the period.
- That was all the help Max Gutjahr (Jr. - Appleton, Wis./Kimberly) needed. The goalie stopped all 15 shots he faced to earn his third shutout of the season and second in WIAC play.
- The Blugolds outshot the Lumberjacks 46-15.
