EAU CLAIRE, Wis. — The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire women's hockey team scored the first six goals of the game en route to a 7-2 win over Aurora University on Sunday at Hobbs Ice Arena. The 12th-ranked Blugolds scored four times in the opening period and never looked back in the commanding win over the Spartans.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- UW-Eau Claire (13-6-0) scored four times in the space of eight minutes in the first period. Ashley Wagenbach (Fr. - Lakeville, Minn./North) opened the scoring six minutes into the game, and Quinn Hartmetz (Sr. - Phoenixville, Pa./Gilmour Academy) doubled the lead less than two minutes later. Ava Johansson (So. - Rogers, Minn.) made it 3-0 two-plus minutes after Hartmetz's goal, and Maddie Hulter (So. - Fergus Falls, Minn.) made it 4-0 with a power play goal with just under six minutes left in the period.
- The Blugolds continued their flurry in the second period, where they tacked on three more goals. Madisyn Krumholz (So. - Burnsville, Minn.) scored within the first two minutes of the period, and Johansson scored her second goal of the game a few minutes later. It put UW-Eau Claire ahead 6-0.
- Aurora (3-12-2) got two goals back later in the second period, but Ava Bullert (Jr. - North Oaks, Minn./Mounds View) finished off the scoring with another Blugold power play goal in the final minute and a half of the period.
- Neither side scored in the final period.
- In addition to her goal, Hartmetz had two assists. In all, eight different Blugolds tallied at least one assist.
- Kaia Hollingsworth (Sr. - Metheun, Mass.) made 14 saves in net for UW-Eau Claire.

The Blugolds will host UW-Stevens Point for a Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) matchup on Saturday, January 25. The puck drops at 2 p.m. at Hobbs. The team will be hosting Alumni Day.
