Game Recap: Women's Ice Hockey |

Swanson earns first career shutout as Blugolds blank Pointers

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. — The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire women's hockey team jumped back into Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) play on Saturday as they hosted UW-Stevens Point at Hobbs Ice Arena. UW-Eau Claire had six different players find the back of the net as they captured their fifth WIAC victory of the year.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • UW-Eau Claire (12-6-0) found the game's opening goal right before the end of the first frame as Quinn Hartmetz (Sr. – Phoenixville, Pa./Gilmour Academy) cut to the net and beat the UWSP netminder with her backhand.
  • The Blugolds held their lead over the Pointers (8-10-1) into the second frame and wasted no time extending their advantage. Lauren Ballinger (Fr. – Shoreview, Minn./Mounds View) and Ava Johansson (So. – Rogers, Minn.) lit the lamp less than three minutes apart to increase the Blugold lead to 3-0.
  • Adrienne Hansen (Fr. – Monticello, Minn.) pushed the lead to 4-0 just before the second intermission with her second goal of the season. Madisyn Krumholz (So. – Burnsville, Minn.) earned her second assist of the afternoon on Hansen's even strength goal.
  • The Blugolds finished out the WIAC contest in the third with goals from Kara Burke (So. – Chicago, Ill/Evanston Township) and Madisyn Krumholz just before the ten-minute mark would seal the 6-0 victory for Eau Claire.
  • Teagan Swanson (Fr. – Eden Prairie, Minn.) stopped all eight shots she faced for UW-Eau Claire to earn her first career shutout.
  • Both teams saw themselves with power play chances, but neither side converted as the Blugolds went 0 for 1 and Stevens Point went 0 for 2.
