EAU CLAIRE, Wis. — The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire men's hockey team lost its series finale against Milwaukee School of Engineering 6-3 on Saturday at Hobbs Ice Arena. The Blugolds responded to Friday night's shutout by scoring three times but they couldn't keep pace with the Raiders, who finished off a series sweep.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- MSOE (7-7-1) got ahead 2-0 in the first period, but the Blugolds (5-8-1) had an answer. Jordan Randall (Sr. - Maple Grove, Minn.) scored unassisted with under four minutes left in the first, and Kyler Grundy (Sr. - Pleasant Prairie, Wis./Indian Trail) added a power play goal early in the second period to tie the game. Connor Szmul (Sr. - Castle Rock, Colo./Castle View) assisted.
- The Raiders went back in front with a goal five minutes after Grundy's strike. They added a short-handed goal to make it 4-2 with less than four minutes left in the second period.
- MSOE scored twice more in the third period to go up 6-2 before Will Brenner (Fr. - Edmond, Okla./Edmond Memorial) finished the scoring with a Blugold goal in the final four-plus minutes. It was his first career goal as a Blugold. Trenten Heyde (Jr. - Atlanta, Ga./Grayson) and Randall assisted.
- Ethan Roberts (Jr. - Cary, N.C./Loomis Chaffee) made 18 saves in net.
- The Blugolds finished 1 for 4 on the power play. They out-shot MSOE 38-24.
