CHICAGO, Ill. (blugolds.com) – The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire men's soccer team concluded their road trip in Illinois on Sunday with a nonconference game against Aurora University. Despite a two-goal deficit in the opening 16 minutes of play, the Blugolds answered with five goals of their own to claim the 5-4 victory. UW-Eau Claire's third win of the season is also the programs and head coach Casey Holm's 50
th career win since the team's creation three seasons ago.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Nathan Donovan (Sr. – Hazel Green, Wis.) spearheaded the Blugold offense and comeback collecting his first hat trick of the season. Donovan scored his first two goals of the afternoon in the 25th and 35th minutes with the first coming from a penalty kick and the second coming off a transition rush into the Aurora box. Donovan sealed the hat trick in the 59th minute off a one touch finish on a cross from Porter Ball (Sr. – Minneapolis, Minn.) to tie the game at 3-3.
- Owen Williams (Jr. – Stevens Point, Wis.) found Eau Claire's first lead of the contest in the 73rd minute with a strike from the top of the 18-yard box after the ball bounced around the box.
- In the 78th minute, Nathan Donovan was taken down inside the box and the Blugolds were awarded their second penalty kick of the afternoon. Sam Lynch (Sr. – Verona, Wis.) stepped up to the spot and slotted the ball into the bottom left corner for Eau Claire's fifth and final goal of the game.
- Mark Belknap (Sr. – Anoka, Minn.) stopped two of the six shots he faced to earn his first win of the season. Belknap is 1-0-0 on the year.
WHAT'S NEXT
The Blugolds (3-0-1) will be back on the road Wednesday, September 11
th when they travel to Bethel University to take on the Royals. Kick off from Ona Orth Athletic Complex is scheduled for 4 p.m.
