blugolds.com) – The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire football team held their home opener on Saturday with the Coe College Kohawks in town at Carson Park. Despite being down 21-7 at halftime, the Blugolds battled back with 21 second half points. With both teams tied at the end of regulation, the two sides went back and forth from the 25-yard line before Coe College intercepted Eau Claire's two-point conversion to hand the Blugolds their first loss of the season.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Harry Roubidoux (Sr. – Winneconne, Wis.) had himself a career day from the pocket with 409 passing yards, 32 completions, and six touchdowns. All three categories were single game career highs for Roubidoux as he tied the program record for most passing touchdowns in a single game with Jesse Krzyzanowski who tallied six TD's in 2005 against Illinois Wesleyan.
- Nolan Stans (Sr. – Spring Valley, Wis.) hauled in two of his three touchdowns on the day in the third quarter as UW-Eau Claire battled back from a 21-7 deficit at the half. Stans' finished the day with 106 receiving yards on seven receptions.
- Isaac Garside (Sr. – Bonduel, Wis.) and Yaach Chuol (Jr. – Coon Rapids, Minn.) each caught one touchdown themselves as Garside racked up a team high 143 yards and eight receptions. Chuol grabbed six passes for 81 yards to help the Blugolds tie the game at the end of the regulation.
- After each team converted their first OT try, the Blugolds had luck go against them as Coe College fumbled their two-point conversion into the endzone, right to the feet of a Kohawk player to successfully convert. Eau Claire scored on their ensuing drive but had their two-point conversion intercepted to fall 43-41 in double overtime.
- As the Blugold offense turned up their pressure in the second half, the UWEC defense also locked things down with one interception and one sack to stifle the Coe offense. To just one score in the second half. Landon Wesloh (Jr. – Zimmerman, Minn.) snagged his first career interception in the Blugolds' redzone to keep Coe from scoring in the beginning of the fourth quarter. Jack Tomkins (Fr. – Evergreen Park, Ill.) recorded his first career sack later in the fourth quarter on fourth down to turn the ball over to the Blugolds.
- Brady Hoffner (Jr. – Mankato, Minn.) led the Eau Claire defense with 11 total tackles on the day. JP Wolterstorff (Sr. – Eau Claire, Wis.) and Landon Wesloh were close behind Hoffner with 10 tackles a piece.
