EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (blugolds.com) – The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire women's soccer held their home opener on Sunday with St. Olaf College in town. An early goal by UWEC was not enough as St. Olaf found the net twice in the second half to hand the Blugolds their first loss of the season.
HOW IT HAPPENED
-
After the opening strike, St. Olaf pressed hard and evened the shots at halftime, but the Blugold defense led by Allison Raasch (So. - Wausau, Wis.) and Ava Glenn (Jr. - Montgomery, Ill.) held strong to keep the 1-0 lead into halftime.
-
In the 48th minute, UW-Eau Claire was awarded a penalty kick after an Ole defender was called for a handball inside the 18-yard box. Elise Pinewski (Sr. - Anoka, Minn.) stepped up to the spot and fired the penalty kick to the top right corner, but the St. Olaf goalkeeper made the save.
