ST. JOSEPH, Minn. (blugolds.com) – The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire women's soccer began the 2024 season on the road Friday with a trip to central Minnesota for a nonconference contest with the College of Saint Benedict. UW-Eau Claire controlled the game from the opening kickoff and were rewarded once in each half as
Johanna Thompson (Fr. – Green Bay, Wis.) tallied a brace to give the Blugolds the 2-0 win to begin their season.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- On a sprinting run into the 18-yard box, Johanna Thompson found a lofted cross from Molly Henderson (Sr. – Duluth, Minn.) and headed the ball in the bottom corner for her first goal in a Blugold kit.
- In the 75th minute, Johannah Thompson secured her first career brace with her second goal of the with a header into the bottom right corner. The insurance goal came from a lofted cross from Ava Glenn (Jr. – Montgomery, Ill.).
- Molly Henderson and Ava Glenn both earned primary assists on Thompson's brace.
- Kennedy Boll (Franklin, Wis.) started the season with a seven save shutout, bringing her career total to 13.
WHAT'S NEXT
- The Blugolds (1-0-0) will travel back home and host their home opener on Sunday, September 1st when St. Olaf College comes to Eau Claire. Kickoff from Simpson Field is slated for 12:30 p.m.
