KENOSHA, Wis. (blugolds.com) — The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire women's tennis team concluded its regular season with a 5-4 dual victory over Carthage College on Sunday. The Blugolds sealed the exciting win with a victory at No. 1 singles.
UW-Eau Claire fell behind early after dropping two of three doubles matches.
Téa Armstrong (Jr. - Blue Earth, Minn.) and
Liv Herzog (So. - Owatonna, Minn.) teamed up to get the Blugolds' sole doubles victory, taking the No. 3 match 8-5.
The Blugolds recovered in a big way in singles play, winning four of the six matches to take the dual. A 6-4, 6-2 win by
Samantha Fuchs (Jr. - DeForest, Wis.), who is ranked No. 13 in the region, at No. 1 singles was the dual-clincher. It was set up by a 6-1, 6-1 win at No. 2 by
Anna Lee (So. - Buffalo, Minn.), a 6-1, 6-1 victory at No. 4 by
Sydney Presler (Sr. - Eau Claire, Wis./Altoona) and Herzog's 6-1, 6-1 win at No. 6.
UW-Eau Claire will now prep for the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Team Tournament. The tournament will be held in Whitewater on Saturday, April 27. The Blugolds are the No. 2 seed in the four-team tournament, and will face third-seeded UW-La Crosse at 12 p.m.
The winners of each semifinal dual will square off for the conference title and NCAA Tournament berth at 3 p.m. that day.
