EAU CLAIRE, Wis. —
Kyla Overskei (Jr. - Maple Grove, Minn.) hit a go-ahead layup with two seconds left to give the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire women's basketball team a 58-56 victory over UW-Superior on Saturday at the Sonnentag Event Center. Overskei's game-winner capped a comeback from a 10-point deficit and gave the Blugolds a second consecutive win.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- UW-Eau Claire (2-5) trailed 38-28 with six minutes left in the third quarter, but the Blugolds roared back across the final 16 minutes of action to pick up the win.
- A 12-2 run that spanned three-plus minutes in the third quarter erased the 10-point deficit for UW-Eau Claire. The Yellowjackets still carried a 46-42 lead entering the fourth quarter though.
- The Blugolds took their first lead since the first quarter when Reanna Hutchinson (Jr. - Eau Claire, Wis./North) made a go-ahead 3-pointer with four minutes left in regulation. The two teams traded shots from there, and UW-Superior eventually tied it at 56 with just under two minutes remaining.
- With time running out, Overskei drove down the left baseline and rolled in the game-winning layup with two seconds left. The Yellowjackets were unable to get a shot off at the other end, giving the Blugolds a dramatic victory.
- Overskei led UW-Eau Claire with 14 points. She also had four rebounds and three assists.
- Hutchinson scored 11 points and grabbed five rebounds. Anna Koth (Sr. - Maple Grove, Minn./Wayzata) had seven points and four rebounds.
- The Blugolds shot 44% from the field and made 9 of 11 free throw attempts.
