EAU CLAIRE, Wis. – The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire women's basketball team used a dominant second half to secure a 62-54 win over the University of Northwestern (Minn.) on Wednesday night at the Sonnentag Event Center. It was the team's third consecutive victory.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- UW-Eau Claire (3-5) trailed 36-23 at halftime but roared back with a 21-point third quarter to cut the deficit and take control.
- A 13-point swing in the second half saw the Blugolds outscore Northwestern 39-18 across the final two quarters.
- Reanna Hutchinson (Jr. - Eau Claire, Wis./North) led all scorers with 21 points, shooting 9 of 19 from the field, including three 3-pointers. She also added seven rebounds and two steals.
- Kyla Overskei (Jr. - Maple Grove, Minn.) followed with 18 points on 7 of 16 shooting, along with seven rebounds and three assists.
- Lauren Meudt (Jr. - Waunakee, Wis.) anchored the defense with 10 rebounds, six points, and three assists.
- The Blugolds dominated the boards with 42 rebounds, including 34 defensive rebounds, limiting second-chance opportunities for Northwestern.
- Eau Claire's improved shooting efficiency in the second half, combined with holding Northwestern to just eight points in the third quarter and 10 in the fourth, secured the win.
