BEREA, Ohio — The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire women's basketball team used a dominant start to cruise past Alma College 75-49 in the consolation game of the Baldwin Wallace Invitational on Monday. The Blugolds scored the first 15 points of the game and never looked back to wrap up the nonconference portion of their 2024-25 campaign.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Four players scored in double figures for UW-Eau Claire (5-6), which never trailed in the contest.
- Kyla Overskei led the way with 20 points and earned a spot on the all-tournament team. Reanna Hutchinson (Jr. - Eau Claire, Wis./North) added 18 points, five steals and four rebounds.
- Jessilyn Ernst (So. - Pardeeville, Wis.) tallied a double-double with 10 points and 11 rebounds. Lauren Meudt (Jr. - Waunakee, Wis.) chipped in with 10 points of her own.
- Overskei scored eight points as part of the Blugolds' game-opening 15-0 run. They held the Scots (5-7) scoreless for the first seven minutes of the contest.
- Alma pulled within six of the lead in the second quarter, but UW-Eau Claire countered with a 13-3 run to pull away again. The Blugolds led by at least 14 the rest of the game.
- The Blugolds outscored the Scots 26-19 in the third quarter and 15-12 in the fourth.
- UW-Eau Claire shot 43% overall and went 19 of 25 from the free throw line. The Blugolds also controlled the glass, out-rebounding Alma 43-33.

UW-Eau Claire will begin Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) play with a home game against UW-La Crosse on Saturday, January 4. Tip-off is scheduled for 5 p.m. at the Sonnentag Event Center.
