MANKATO, Minn. — The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire women's basketball team defeated Bethany Lutheran College 71-53 on Tuesday to pick up its first victory of the season. Three Blugolds scored in double figures to help the team power its way into the win column.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Kyla Overskei (Jr. – Maple Grove, Minn.), Reanna Hutchinson (Jr. – Eau Claire, Wis./North) and Lauren Meudt (Jr. – Waunakee, Wis.) accounted for more than half of the Blugolds' points.
- Overskei led all scorers with 18 points, marking her fourth consecutive contest scoring in double figures. She also had eight rebounds and two assists.
- Hutchinson added 17 points, six rebounds and three assists. Meudt had 14 points, three rebounds and three assists.
- The Blugolds (1-5) overturned an early deficit. They trailed 10-4 to open the game, but a 9-3 UW-Eau Claire run erased the deficit. The Blugolds never trailed again.
- UW-Eau Claire led 23-15 at the end of the first quarter and 37-23 at halftime. The Blugolds held the Vikings to eight points in the second quarter.
- The Blugolds led by double figures the entire second half.
- UW-Eau Claire shot 39% from the field and forced Bethany Lutheran (1-6) into 19 turnovers.
UP NEXT
The Blugolds return home to host UW-Superior on Saturday, December 7. Tip-off is set for 5 p.m. at the Sonnentag Event Center. The team will be hosting Parents Night.
