EAU CLAIRE, Wis. — The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire women's hockey team knocked off No. 6 Augsburg 4-2 on Saturday at Hobbs Ice Arena. The Blugolds celebrated Senior Day with another win over a top-10 opponent — their second such victory this season. It was the team's sixth straight win.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- UW-Eau Claire (10-3-0) got out to a two-goal lead and never looked back. The Blugolds never trailed.
- Madisyn Krumholz (So. - Burnsville, Minn.) scored the opener with just over six minutes left in the first period. Maddie Hulter (So. - Fergus Falls, Minn.) assisted.
- Sam Moehle (Jr. - Farmington, Minn.) added a power play goal early in the second period off an assist from Ashley Wagenbach (Fr. - Lakeville, Minn./North).
- The Auggies got on the board four minutes after Moehle's goal, but the Blugolds answered with a goal from Sadie Long (Sr. - Farmington, Minn.) midway through the second period. Assisted by Ava Johansson (So. - Rogers, Minn.) and Adrienne Hansen (Fr. - Monticello, Minn.), the goal put UW-Eau Claire ahead 3-1.
- Augsburg scored its final goal in the final two minutes of the second period. Long finished off the victory with an empty-net goal in the final 20 seconds of the game, assisted by Samantha Bandholz (Sr. - Richfield, Wis./Slinger) and Ava Bullert (Jr. - North Oaks, Minn./Mounds View).
- Kaia Hollingsworth (Sr. - Metheun, Mass.) stopped 23 shots in goal to earn the victory.
- The Blugolds successfully killed seven Augsburg power plays.
- The team honored its five seniors with a pregame ceremony: Bandholz, Ellie Andersen (Sr. - Fergus Falls, Minn.), Quinn Hartmetz (Sr. - Phoenixville, Pa./Gilmour Academy), Long and Hollingsworth.
