DULUTH, Minn. — The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire women's hockey team defeated the College of St. Scholastica 2-1 on Friday at Mars Lakeview Arena. The 11th-ranked Blugolds scored a pair of early goals and held on from there to earn a fifth consecutive victory.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Maddie Hulter (So. - Fergus Falls, Minn.) gave the Blugolds (9-3) a lead just under five minutes into the game. She scored off an assist from Ashley Wagenbach (Fr. - Lakeville, Minn./North).
- Ellie Andersen (Sr. - Fergus Falls, Minn.) doubled the lead with a power play goal with just over two minutes left in the first period. Quinn Hartmetz (Sr. - Phoenixville, Pa./Gilmour Academy) and Lauren Ballinger (Fr. - Shoreview, Minn./Mounds View) assisted.
- The Saints scored their only goal late in the second period, but couldn't complete a comeback.
- Kaia Hollingsworth (Sr. - Metheun, Mass.) made 12 saves in net to earn her first victory as a Blugold.
- The Blugolds outshot the Saints 38-13.
UP NEXT
The Blugolds will host No. 6 Augsburg on Saturday, December 14 at Hobbs Ice Arena. The team will be hosting Senior Day at the rink, honoring its five upcoming graduates before the game begins at 2 p.m.
