STEVENS POINT, Wis. — The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire men's hockey team dropped its series opener against No. 15 UW-Stevens Point 4-0 on Friday at K.B. Willett Arena. The Pointers pulled away with two goals late in the second period to clinch a win in the first of three meetings between the two Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) teams this season.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- UW-Stevens Point (6-3-1, 3-1-1) took the lead a little over seven minutes left in the first period.
- The Pointers doubled the lead with a power play goal with under three minutes left in the second period. They made it 3-0 with another goal in the final minute of the second period.
- UW-Stevens Point closed the scoring with a fourth goal midway through the third period.
- Max Gutjahr (Jr. - Appleton, Wis./Kimberly) made 29 stops in net for the Blugolds (4-6-1, 3-2-0).
- The Blugolds went 0 for 3 on power play opportunities.
- The Pointers outshot UW-Eau Claire 33-27.

The series resumes on Saturday, December 14, at Hobbs Ice Arena. The Blugolds host the Pointers at 7 p.m. and will also be hosting Alumni Night.
