EAU CLAIRE, Wis. – The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire women's hockey team earned an impressive 5-2 victory over Bethel University on Wednesday night at Hobbs Ice Arena. The 11th-ranked Blugolds used a strong third period to pull away and secure the win.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Samantha Bandholz (Sr. – Richfield, Wis./Slinger) opened the scoring for the Blugolds in the seventh minute of the first period, assisted by Ava Bullert (Jr. – North Oaks, Minn./Mounds View). Bethel answered with a goal just 15 seconds later to tie the game, and later took the lead with a goal in the early goings of the second period.
- Ashley Wagenbach (Fr. – Lakeville, Minn./North) evened the score for UW-Eau Claire with a goal at 7:19 of the second period, assisted by Sadie Long (Sr. – Farmington, Minn.) and Ava Johansson (So. – Rogers, Minn.).
- The Blugolds surged ahead with three goals in the third period, starting with Johansson's goal at 5:20, assisted by Long.
- Maddie Hulter (So. – Fergus Falls, Minn.) added another goal at 6:18, with assists from Rachel Mirwald (Jr. – Verona, Wis.) and Lauren Ballinger (Fr. – Shoreview, Minn./Mounds View).
- Keira Bolt (Jr. – Boise, Idaho) sealed the victory with an empty-net goal in the final seconds, assisted by Quinn Hartmetz (Sr. – Phoenixville, Pa./Gilmour Academy).
