EAU CLAIRE, Wis. — The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire women's hockey team erased a two-goal deficit to defeat St. Olaf College 3-2 and finish off a weekend sweep on Saturday at Hobbs Ice Arena. The Blugolds fell in a 2-0 deficit early, but scored the final three goals of the game to earn a second straight win over the Oles.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The game was scoreless entering the second period, where the Oles (2-2-0) scored a pair of goals in the first five minutes to get ahead 2-0.
- Samantha Bandholz (Sr. - Richfield, Wis./Slinger) pulled one back for UW-Eau Claire (2-1-0), scoring unassisted with just under 13 minutes remaining in the second period.
- A short-handed goal late in the second period tied the game. Lauren Ballinger (Fr. - Shoreview, Minn./Mounds View) scored off an assist from Sam Moehle (Jr. - Farmington, Minn.) to pull the score level at 2-2 heading into the final intermission.
- Ashley Wagenbach (Fr. - Lakeville, Minn./North) scored the game-winner early in the third period. Less than a minute into the final period, she scored a power play goal off an assist from Kylie Wiltse (So. - Maplewood, Minn./Roseville) to give UW-Eau Claire its first lead of the afternoon.
- The Blugolds were stout defensively the rest of the way, killing an Ole power play, to hold on for the win.
- Tegan Swanson (Fr. - Eden Prairie, Minn.) earned the win in net. She made 14 saves.
