DECORAH, Iowa — The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire men's cross country team placed third at the Luther Saga Cup on Friday afternoon. The Blugolds wrapped up their regular season with their fourth top-three finish of the campaign.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Blugolds tallied 65 team points to finish third. Wartburg won the meet with 15 points and UW-Stout took second with 58.
- Ian Barnes (Jr. - Cary, Ill./Cary Grove) set the tone for UW-Eau Claire, placing seventh individually. He crossed the line in 25:55.3.
- Three other Blugolds finished in the top 30: Joey Thaler (Sr. - Chippewa Falls, Wis./McDonell Central), Jack Nelson (Fr. - Plymouth, Minn./West Lutheran) and Isaac Schouten (Fr. - Bemidji, Minn.). Thaler was 26th in 26:36.1, Nelson was 27th at 26:36.5, and Schouten placed 29th in 26:44.1.
- Andrew Thaler (Fr. - Chippewa Falls, Wis./McDonell Central) rounded out the scorers for UW-Eau Claire, placing 32nd in 26:48.5.
- In all, the Blugolds had eight runners place in the top 50.
UP NEXT
The Blugolds will now prep for the NCAA postseason. It begins with regional action, with UW-Eau Claire slated to compete at the North Regional on Saturday, November 16 in Northfield, Minnesota. Race time is 12 p.m.
