EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (blugolds.com) — The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire women's soccer team defeated UW-Whitewater 4-1 in a penalty kick shootout on Tuesday at Simpson Field in the first round of the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Tournament (Presented by Culver's). The third-seeded Blugolds and sixth-seeded Warhawks were tied 2-2 after double overtime, but UW-Eau Claire didn't miss from the penalty spot to advance to the WIAC Tournament semifinals.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Both teams scored once in each half during regulation. Each team rallied from a deficit to force overtime.
- Taylor Czarapata (So. - Muskego, Wis.) put UW-Eau Claire ahead in the 16th minute off an assist from Molly Henderson (Sr. - Duluth, Minn./Duluth East). The Warhawks answered in the 39th minute to level the score heading into halftime.
- UW-Whitewater took its only lead in the 46th minute, but the Blugolds answered quickly. Jayda Swopes (So. - Janesville, Wis./Milton) scored off an assist from Henderson in the 49th minute to tie the game at 2-2.
- Neither team scored in either of the overtime periods, sending the match to penalty kicks. Henderson, Haley Von Rentzell (Jr. - Chanhassen, Minn.), Mia Leszko (Fr. - Suamico, Wis./Bay Port) and Paige Crawford (Jr. - Elk River, Minn.) all scored from the spot, while Kennedy Boll (Sr. - Franklin, Wis.) made one save during the shootout to send the Blugolds into the conference semifinals.
- Boll made four saves in total. The Blugolds outshot the Warhawks 22-13.

UW-Eau Claire will visit second-seeded UW-Platteville in the WIAC Tournament semifinals on Thursday, November 7. Game time is 7 p.m. in Platteville. The Blugolds and Pioneers tied 2-2 in their regular-season meeting.
