EAU CLAIRE, Wis. — The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire men's hockey team dropped its series finale against No. 2 St. Norbert 2-1 on Saturday at Hobbs Ice Arena. The Blugolds took the lead in the first period, but couldn't hold on against the unbeaten Green Knights.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Jordan Randall (Sr. - Maple Grove, Minn.) put the Blugolds (2-5-1) ahead with seven minutes left in the opening period. He scored off assists from Danny Reis (Fr. - Waunakee, Wis.) and Kyle Bauer (So. - Hastings, Minn.) to give UW-Eau Claire its first lead of the two-game series.
- St. Norbert answered a minute and a half later. The Green Knights tied the game at 1-1 with a goal with five and a half minutes until the first intermission.
- The Green Knights found the game-winning goal late in the second period. They scored with 1:04 left until the break and held the Blugolds scoreless in the third to hold on for the victory.
- Max Gutjahr (Jr. - Appleton, Wis./Kimberly) made 20 saves for UW-Eau Claire.
- The Blugolds killed three penalties and outshot the Green Knights 23-22.
