EAU CLAIRE, Wis. — The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire women's basketball team lost to St. Norbert College 68-62 on Tuesday at the Sonnentag Event Center. The Green Knights used a run late in the third quarter to pull ahead, and despite the Blugolds' threat of a fourth-quarter comeback, were able to hold on.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- UW-Eau Claire (0-5) led 13-11 after the first quarter but trailed 25-24 at halftime.
- A 5-0 run put the Blugolds up 36-32 with 3:55 left in the third quarter. However, the Green Knights answered with an 8-0 run and never trailed again.
- St. Norbert finished the third quarter on a 14-3 run.
- The Green Knights' lead grew to 12 midway through the fourth quarter before the Blugolds began to rally. A basket by Kyla Overskei (Jr. - Maple Grove, Minn.) started a 7-0 run that pulled UW-Eau Claire within five of the lead.
- A 3-pointer by Overskei with 23 seconds left cut St. Norbert's lead to three points at 65-62, but the Blugolds never got any closer. The Green Knights closed out the game at the free throw line.
- Overskei finished with 17 points and nine rebounds. Reanna Hutchinson (Jr. - Eau Claire, Wis./North) had 16 points and three assists. Lauren Meudt (Jr. - Waunakee, Wis.) scored 10 points and nabbed five steals.
- The Blugolds shot 38% from the floor.
