EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (blugolds.com) —
Ella Kiebel (Jr. - Maple Lake, Minn.) surpassed 1,000 career assists as the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire volleyball team swept Luther College 3-0 on Saturday at the Sonnentag Event Center. Kiebel hit the milestone in the opening set and the 24th-ranked Blugolds cruised on Senior Day.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- UW-Eau Claire (19-7) won 25-19, 25-20, 25-13.
- The Blugolds posted a hitting percentage of .311 and held Luther to .146.
- Bailey Leeke (Jr. - Lakeville, Minn./North) hit a match-high 13 kills. Kiebel finished with 39 assists.
- UW-Eau Claire served 13 aces.
- The Blugolds clinched a back-and-forth opening set by scoring six consecutive points in the late stages. It turned a 17-16 lead into a 23-16 advantage, and the Norse couldn't recover.
- The second set followed a similar suit. UW-Eau Claire led 21-20, but a kill from Leeke started a 4-0 run that clinched the set for the Blugolds.
- Several long runs in the third set ensured the Blugolds would finish off a sweep. UW-Eau Claire led by as much as 12 in the final set.
- The Blugolds recognized Kiebel and Sophia Brown (Sr. - Colgate, Wis./Germantown) during a Senior Day ceremony.
