Swimmers and divers sweep UW-La Crosse

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (blugolds.com) — The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire men's and women's swimming and diving teams swept UW-La Crosse in Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) duals on Saturday at the McPhee Center. The Blugold men defeated the Eagles 210-88, while the women prevailed 165-135.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Ben Keller (Sr. - Cedarburg, Wis.) won three individual events his last time out, and repeated the feat on Saturday. Keller swept the 100-yard butterfly, 200-yard butterfly and 200-yard freestyle. He also helped the 200-yard medley relay team place first.
  • Kadin Denner (Sr. - Aurora, Colo./Cherokee Trail) and Blake Wallen (So. - Savage, Minn./Prior Lake) both won a pair of events individually. Denner took first in the 200-yard breaststroke and 200-yard individual medley, along with helping the 200 medley relay team win. Wallen swept the diving competitions. He posted an NCAA Zones qualifying score on the one-meter board at 283.90, and also won the three-meter competition.
  • Zhander Rowley (So. - Janesville, Wis./Parker) won the 100-yard breaststroke and was part of the victorious 200 medley relay.
  • In all, seven different competitors won an individual event for the Blugold men.
  • Three Blugold women won multiple individual events. Grace Schnabl (Jr. - New Berlin, Wis./Brookfield Central) swept the 100-yard freestyle and 200-yard freestyle, and also was part of relay wins in the 200-yard medley and 400-yard freestyle. Elaina Plonis (Sr. - Macomb, Mich./Eisenhower) won both the 100-yard butterfly and 200-yard butterfly. Elaine Proefrock (Sr. - Grafton, Wis.) placed first in the 500-yard freestyle and 1,000-yard freestyle.
  • Kiara Bissen (Sr. - Madison, Wis./Memorial) won the 200-yard breaststroke and also helped the 400 freestyle relay team win. Sydney McGuine (Sr. - Huntley, Ill.) was part of two relay victories and also placed first in the 100-yard backstroke. Molly Sheehan (Sr. - Austin, Minn.) was also part of two relay wins.
  • Both the men and the women improved to 3-0 in WIAC duals this season.
