STEVENS POINT, Wis. (blugolds.com) — The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire men's cross country team finished in third place at the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Championships on Saturday at Wisconsin River Golf Club. The 15th-ranked Blugolds tallied 105 team points and finished only behind champion UW-La Crosse (24 points) and runner-up UW-Whitewater (55 points).
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Mason Shea (Sr. - River Falls, Wis.) earned All-WIAC honors for the third time in his career, and got a spot on the first team for the first time. He was the leading Blugold, placing seventh in 24:13.8. He was a second team All-WIAC honoree last season and an honorable mention in 2022.
- Jack Hesse-Withbroe (Jr. - Stillwater, Minn.) was next in for UW-Eau Claire. He crossed the finish line in 24:46.9 to place 20th overall. Sam Verkerke (Sr. - White Bear Lake, Minn.) also finished in the top 30, crossing the line 28th in 24:59.6.
- Trevor LaMirande (Sr. - Dresser, Wis./St. Croix Falls) and Carl Lundgren (Sr. - Auburndale, Wis.) rounded out the scoring for UW-Eau Claire in 34th and 35th place, respectively. LaMirande finished in 25:10.2, and Lundgren was 0.2 seconds behind him.
- Saturday's performance gave the Blugolds their first top-three finish in the WIAC since 2019.

The Blugolds will return to the course on Friday, November 8, at the Luther Saga Cup in Decorah, Iowa.
