PELLA, Iowa — The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire women's basketball team fell to Central Colege on Saturday at P.H. Kuyper Gymnasium. The Blugolds got ahead by 15 points in the first half, but the Dutch surged in the second half to pick up a comeback victory.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- UW-Eau Claire (0-3) got out to a strong start and rode a huge second quarter to a commanding lead. The Blugolds used a 10-0 run that featured two 3-pointers from Kyla Overskei (Jr. - Maple Grove, Minn.) to get ahead by 15 at 28-13 with 2:23 left until halftime.
- The Blugolds carried a 29-16 advantage into the break.
- Central opened the second half on a 16-0 run, holding the Blugolds scoreless for more than five minutes to surge into the lead. UW-Eau Claire still managed to get back in front 34-32 at the end of the third quarter.
- A back-and-forth final quarter saw the Dutch take the lead for good on a 3-pointer with 2:23 left. It put Central ahead 49-47, and they held off a final push by the Blugolds. Overskei hit a 3-pointer with seven seconds left to make it a one-point game, but Central held on by making free throws at the other end.
- Overskei finished with 20 points and a career-high 12 rebounds to earn the first double-double of her career. Lauren Meudt (Jr. - Waunakee, Wis.) added eight points and six rebounds. Karsyn Bauman (Fr. - Ripon, Wis.) had eight points and a career-best 10 rebounds. Jessilyn Ernst (So. - Pardeeville, Wis.) also had 10 rebounds.
