NORTHFIELD, Minn. — The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire men's cross country team finished fifth at the NCAA North Regional on Saturday. The Blugolds had three runners pick up all-region honors to pace the team to a top-five finish.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Blugolds tallied 178 team points. UW-La Crosse won the regional with 40 points.
- Mason Shea (Sr. - River Falls, Wis.), Jack Hesse-Withbroe (Jr. - Stillwater, Minn.) and Sam Verkerke (Sr. - White Bear Lake, Minn.) all earned all-region honors for the Blugolds. The top 35 finishers at the regional earned all-region recognition.
- Shea led the way with a 13th-place finish, crossing the line in 24:51.1.
- Hesse-Withbroe placed 28th in 25:12.8. Verkerke was close behind, finishing 32nd in 25:16.0.
- Trevor LaMirande (Sr. - Dresser, Wis./St. Croix Falls) and Jesse Peterson (Sr. - St. Paul, Minn./Highland Park) rounded out the scoring for UW-Eau Claire. LaMirande placed 52nd in 25:39.0, while Peterson finished 53rd in 25:39.8.
UP NEXT
The qualifiers for the NCAA Championships will be announced on Sunday, November 17. The championships are slated for Saturday, November 23, in Terre Haute, Indiana.
