WHITEWATER, Wis. (blugolds.com) — The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire volleyball team fell to fourth-ranked UW-Whitewater 3-0 in a Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) matchup on Friday night at Kris Russell Volleyball Arena. The defeat ended a three-game win streak for the Blugolds.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- A 3-0 run midway through the opening set pulled the Blugolds to within a point of the Warhawks at 10-9, but UW-Whitewater pulled away by winning nine of the next 13 points. They clinched the opening set 25-17.
- The Warhawks raced out to a 6-1 lead in the second set, but three consecutive kills by Mya Cinnamo (So. - Rosemount, Minn.) helped UW-Eau Claire get back into it. The score was later 22-21 in favor of UW-Whitewater, who scored three of the next four points to win 25-22.
- A 7-0 spurt late in the third set helped UW-Whitewater clinch the match. The Warhawks won the final set 25-11.
- Abby Stanwood (Jr. - Excelsior, Minn./Minnetonka) led UW-Eau Claire with 10 kills and a season-high 15 digs. Bailey Leeke (Jr. - Lakeville, Minn./North) added nine kills and Cinnamo finished with eight.
- Ella Kiebel (Jr. - Maple Lake, Minn.) had a match-high 27 assists.
- The Warhawks held a .243 to .065 advantage in attacking percentage.
- The Blugolds dropped to 11-5 on the season and 1-2 in the WIAC.
