COLFAX, Wis. (blugolds.com) — The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire men's cross country team placed second at its home Blugold Invite on Friday afternoon at Whitetail Golf Course.
Mason Shea (Sr. - River Falls, Wis.) won the event, marking his first individual win of the season. The Blugolds finished with a team score of 57, only finishing behind winner UW-La Crosse.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Shea crossed the finish line in 24:37.4 to win the race by 11 seconds. It was a new season best for the senior.
- Trevor LaMirande (Sr. - Dresser, Wis./St. Croix Falls) and Jack Hesse-Withbroe (Jr. - Stillwater, Minn.) both placed in the top 15 for the Blugolds. LaMirande finished in 25:13.4, good for 11th. Hesse-Withbroe was right behind in 12th place at 25:16.3.
- Jesse Peterson (Sr. - St. Paul, Minn./Highland Park) also placed in the top 20, clocking in at 25:24.0 for 17th place. Sam Verkerke (Sr. - White Bear Lake, Minn.) rounded out the scoring for the Blugolds by taking 31st in 25:44.7.
- It was the team's best finish at the Blugold Invite since 2017, when the men also claimed second place.

The Blugolds will be back in action on Saturday, October 19, at the Augustana Invitational in Rock Island, Illinois.
