EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (blugolds.com) — The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire men's soccer team set a new program scoring record in a 13-0 victory over UW-Stevens Point on Saturday night at Simpson Field. The seventh-ranked Blugolds scored 13 goals to shatter their previous single-game best of 11, set against Finlandia in 2021.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Nine different Blugolds scored in the victory. Nathan Donovan (Sr. - Hazel Green, Wis./Wahlert Catholic) led the way with a hat trick — his fifth of the season — and eight other Blugolds added single goals.
- Donovan scored his hat trick within the first 20 minutes of the game, striking three times within a span of six and a half minutes. It moved his career total to 92 goals.
- Carter Thiesfeld (Sr. - Forest Lake, Minn.) had three assists, and Tate McDermott (Fr. - Grimes, Iowa/Dallas Center-Grimes) and Tobias Volkmann (Fr. - Three Lakes, Wis.) added two apiece.
- UW-Eau Claire scored four times in the first 20 minutes to all but seal the result. The Blugolds led 7-0 at halftime.
- Porter Ball (Sr. - Minneapolis, Minn./Academy of Holy Angels), Sam Lynch (Sr. - Verona, Wis.) and Drew Jeffers (Sr. - Inver Grove Heights, Minn./Simley) all scored from the penalty spot.
- The Blugolds recognized their senior class with a Senior Night ceremony during halftime. Jakob Leonard (Sr. - Cottage Grove, Minn./Park), Spencer Banks (Sr. - Stevens Point, Wis.), Jacob Sampson (Sr. - McFarland, Wis.), Lynch, Cooper Roberts (Jr. - Apple Valley, Minn.), Will Heinen (Sr. - Champlin, Minn./Champlin Park), Thiesfeld, Ball, Donovan, Jeffers, Will Miers (Sr. - Columbus, Minn./Centennial), Mark Belknap (Sr. - Anoka, Minn.) and Connor Capella were all recognized.
